Bumps and Bubbles

For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
Jam 1:23-24 KJV

Every morning I wake up, get dressed, eat breakfast, and brush my teeth….huh? I think I left out something really important! Oh, that’s right my hair. When I do my hair, I like it to be just a certain way like ponytails, buns, braids, or something like that. The thing is, I do not like bubbles or bumps to be anywhere in sight of my hair!

As I looked at my reflection in the mirror, I remembered how we should not just work on the outside. We should most importantly work on our inside. Instead of looking in the mirror, God gave us the Bible so we can make sure we reflect Him!

Dear God, I pray that you would help us when we have bumps in the road and need your help. I want to be a good reflection of Jesus. In His name, amen.

Living Water

Guest Writer

By Angie

This summer, my daughter volunteered to be the keeper of Max, her class’s red-eared slider turtle. The teacher gave her a feeding schedule and instructions on cleaning the water-filled aquarium. She recommended that the tank should be cleaned once a week. As the cleaning time grew near, poor Max would be swimming in green, murky water.

We all know what stagnant water is. This non-flowing water is stale and foul. In order for water to be fresh, we must empty out the old and replenish with new, fresh water. I periodically do this with the cats’ water bowl and the birdbath that sits in my flowerbed. Otherwise the water becomes putrid and useless. In the book of John, we learn that Jesus offers living water. When we drink of that water, we will never thirst again. The water that He gives must not be held in. He instructs us, “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him (John 7:38).” Did you get that? His water flows into us and then out to others.

Living water is moving water, unlike the water in the turtle tank, water bowl, and birdbath. Allow His life-giving water to flow freely. Offer hope, mercy, truth, and kindness to others. Keep the water clean. Give others a fresh drink in this dry and weary land.

Salvation

I have always known about Jesus. My mom says that His name was actually one of my first words! When I was a toddler or so, my mom would sing songs to me like “Jesus Loves Me” or she and dad would tell me all kinds of stories about Him, but there was definitely a time in my life when I really wanted to know God, not just know about Him.

I wanted to know Him personally, but first I had to…
1. Admit I was a sinner and was in need of God.
2. Believe that Jesus died and rose again for my sins.
3. Confess Jesus as Lord of my life.

It was as easy as ABC and because I was only six and learning my alphabet and how to read, this was an easy way to understand how to be saved.

Now, I pray to Him every day by just talking to Him. I praise Him every night which means I like to sing to Him before I go to bed.

He is always there when I need Him, like when I have problems at school with friends. He also helps me when I take a test or have to make a speech. Jesus is real to me. I am sure glad I know Him!

Get on God's Team

“…in all these things,
we are more than conquerors
through Him that loved us”
Romans 8:37 KJV

I love basketball! It’s just so cool to me!! Don’t you just love it when you hear the ball go into the basket and make that swooshing noise or hear the squeak-squeak of the players’ shoes as they dash down the court?

Before I could get my head in the game though, I had to learn a few of the basics like offense and defense. In case you don’t know, there are two teams in basketball. The team that has the ball is called offense. The other team that does not have the ball is on defense.

This got me thinking of how we can all be winners if we’re on God’s team. Jesus made a way for us to go to Heaven by dying on the cross for us and raising from the dead. Plus, He coaches us through the Bible that has all the answers to our problems. We can all be winners on God’s team!

Dear God, I thank You for letting me be on your team.
You are the best coach in life and promise to never leave me.
I’m so grateful for that! In Jesus’ name, amen.

Stay on the Narrow Path

I like to play a game called Orbit Sphere. In the game you have to stay on a very narrow path. On the way it gets difficult. This is just like in the bible when Jesus said Narrow is the way and difficult is the way which leads to life (Matthew 7:14).
He also says that it will not be easy. There’s a time limit in the game just like in real life because Jesus says we only have a certain amount of time on this earth. So be sure to follow this very narrow path, even when it gets hard.

Guess What!?!

Guess what!?!
I'm a contributor on the new cool website
This website is a great way for girls to
express their interest in Jesus Christ.
It's also a place where YOU can grow in your
faith and be encouraged by other girls.
So come on by and check it out.

Thanks Sister Lisa for the opportunity
to be a writer at Growing in Grace!!

All Clean

“Though your sins were as scarlet,
they shall be white as snow” (Isaiah 1:18).

Ugh! Not the laundry again. How come it always has to be me? The soap, the suds, drying the laundry, folding the laundry…sometimes it’s a dread! All of these things come to mind when I do the laundry.

While I was doing that, I remembered that God can help us through hard situations like this. He’s always there when we need Him even if it’s a small problem like this. I also thought that we should try to purify our hearts more with God’s word and His righteousness.

Just like washing clothes they have to be cleaned and purified if they want to have a fresh new start. God can do that exact thing. All we have to do is call on Him.

Hey, laundry isn’t so bad after all!!

One of my Favorite Verses

Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.

1 Timothy 4:11-13
